Gautham Menon’s take on who is next Kamal

Gautham Menon who is currently busy with Vaaranam Aayiram seems to be smitten by the hero Surya. He has been floored by Surya’s dedication and commitment and continues singing his hosannas. While discussing the film, he states that it deals with the life of man in different stages from the youthful days to old age. He further adds that

this could be one of the first films in Tamil cinema which has recorded the events in the life time of a person exhaustively. He says that Surya features as a 30 year and also a 70 year old man. According to the director, the role is not about increasing the brawn or muscle mass but it is all about bringing out the fine nuances which are characteristic of different age groups. Gautham states, “Surya is certainly the next Kamal in the making. I see a lot of work reverence in Surya which is so synonymous with Kamal.” Vaaranam Aayiram features Simran, Divya along with Sameera Reddy as Surya’s screen partners.

Jyothika joins K.V. Anand-Surya team

It is well known that Sivakumar and family have adopted two schools, of which one is in Kancheepuram, under the education trust created by the family. This trust is also engaged in promoting several educational activities. And when the Education Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thangam Thennarasu, put forth a suggestion to the actor to produce a documentary

film to encourage school children go to school, the actor was only too willing to do it.

Moreover, the actor’s son, a popular film star in his own right – Surya – along with other well-known actors Vijay and Madhavan have been signed up for the film. Earlier, director K.V. Anand was reported to wield the megaphone but now the mantle has shifted to V. Priya. However, Anand has been retained as the cinematographer.

Another important person to join this galaxy of stars is Jyothika. It is worth mentioning here that this star couple – Surya and Jyothika – had earlier acted in a documentary on autism.

Mani Ratnam’s Madras Talkies and Gayathri Pushkar

The buzz for some time now has been that Mani Ratnam’s production company, Madras Talkies, will produce the next film of the directors of Oram Po, Gayathri Pushkar.

It is well known that Madras Talkies has thus far only produced the movies of the maestro’s assistants - namely Susi Ganesan (Five Star)

Gayathri Pushkar

and Alagam Perumal (Dum, Dum, Dum). The only exception has been Vasanth (Aasai, Nerrukku Ner). Producing the next film of the husband-wife team of the sleeper hit Oram Po would mean a huge departure for Madras Talkies. But no one seemed to be certain.

Finally, Behindwoods spoke to Mr. Pushkar today to confirm it one way or the other, and the director said Madras Talkies would not be producing their next project. We had met Mani Ratnam a few times, said the director, but it was not to discuss movie projects. It would seem, the director added, that people picked up the idea because they noticed Mr. Ratnam and us together a few times.

Let’s hope that for some future project at least Madras Talkies will produce a film for this gifted team of filmmakers.
